<image:caption>The foot is an often neglected, yet complex part of the body. with the foot acting to keep us moving, we place 2-3 times our body weight through each foot whilst walking and 4-6 times our body weight when running. Repeated strain and poor function of the foot can lead to injury.</image:caption>

      <image:title>General foot care - General Foot Care</image:title>
<image:caption>The feet need appropriate care, just like any other part of our body. The feet can often be subject to trauma or environmental stressors that can leave them in need of care. Regular trips to a Podiatrist help to keep the feet in an optimal condition.</image:caption>

      <image:title>General foot care - Callus and corns</image:title>
<image:caption>Callus and corns are thickened areas of skin which cause discomfort and pain. They occur wherever there is increased stress on the skin, such as the tops of toes, balls of the feet and the heels. These sites can become painful as the hard layer of skin damages the soft deeper layers. Without treatment, these areas can form wounds which can become infected. A Podiatrist can reduce this hard skin and offer ways to reduce or prevent excessive skin stress.</image:caption>

      <image:title>General foot care - Nail care</image:title>
<image:caption>Toenail care is an important part of foot health. The toenails can become hard and thickened, can change shape and can even cut into the skin and create infection. Regular visits to a Podiatrist can help to prevent problems with nail growth.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Diabetes foot care - What is Diabetes?</image:title>
<image:caption>Diabetes is an ever growing problem with over a million Australian’s currently diagnosed with the condition. Diabetes is a metabolic disease that involves the hormone insulin and its action on sugar in our blood. Insulin works by moving these sugars, or glucose, from our blood and into our cells. Diabetes is where this pathway breaks down and our blood has uncontrolled, high levels of sugar. Excess sugar can cause many problems in many parts of the body, examples include the eyes, kidneys, circulatory system and heart, brain and nervous system and even the feet.</image:caption>
